In line with Kuwait’s commitment to protecting its people and fostering an addiction-free society, the tenth wing of the Addiction Treatment Center was inaugurated on Saturday, October 25, 2025. This expansion further strengthens the integration of the nation’s health and security efforts.
The official opening was attended by His Excellency the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, Chairman of Kuwait Finance House (KFH), Hamad Abdulmohsen Al-Marzouq, and Kuwait Finance House Group CEO, Khaled AlShamlan.
The inauguration of this new wing, made possible with a contribution from KFH, underscores the unified action between state institutions and the private sector. This development will upgrade treatment and rehabilitation services, ensuring the provision of an integrated, healthy, and humane environment for individuals in recovery.
His Excellency the Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah stressed that this project illustrates the cooperation between government and private sector. He stated that Kuwait's approach to combating the drug scourge extends beyond security measures, prioritizing the individual by providing essential treatment, support, and rehabilitation.
His Excellency pointed out that the Ministry of Interior, under the directives of the political leadership, works in complete harmony with state institutions and relevant authorities to promote a culture of prevention, intensify community awareness, and expand treatment and rehabilitation programs. He praised the Addiction Treatment Center's humanitarian and professional role in caring for recovering addicts and providing quality services that contribute to their recovery and reintegration into society as productive and influential individuals.
He emphasized the Ministry's firm commitment to combating drugs while simultaneously extending a helping hand to people battling addiction. The inauguration of the tenth wing clearly demonstrates this dual commitment, affirming that treatment and rehabilitation are core responsibilities and that hope is always available for a new beginning.
He explained that combating addiction requires a two-pronged approach: enforcing security measures to curb the spread of narcotics, and providing treatment and rehabilitation to rebuild the individual, stressing that investing in people is the most valuable investment of all.
His Excellency also noted that this project represents a distinguished model for activating the private sector's social responsibility and supporting national efforts in the field of addiction treatment. He commended the vital role played by KFH in supporting the health and community sectors.
His Excellency the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, said that the tenth wing expansion covers approximately 900 square meters and offers a total capacity of 22 beds across 11 rooms, which include eight patient rooms, two single isolation rooms, and an observation room. The wing also features three lounges, a dining area, and dedicated rooms for visiting and medical inspection, along with three operational storage rooms. It includes a fully integrated administrative section housing a pharmacy, a doctors' lounge, and three organizational offices.
His Excellency explained that this project complements the Ministry of Health's ongoing support for the Addiction Treatment Center, which was originally established in 2005 with a contribution from KFH. The center provides a comprehensive therapeutic and rehabilitative environment that helps patients return to normal life through advanced programs encompassing medical, social, psychological, sports, and artistic aspects.
Meanwhile, KFH Chairman, Hamad Abdulmohsen Al-Marzouq, expressed the bank's pride in supporting the project, underscoring that the opening of the tenth wing is a continuation of KFH's initiative that established the treatment center back in 2005.
He added that KFH's support stems directly from its belief in its national and societal responsibilities, emphasizing its commitment to health initiatives that foster social and family stability.
The inauguration of the tenth wing is part of the center's comprehensive expansion plans. Following the opening of a larger prior expansion on January 15, 2025, which added 304 new beds, the center’s total capacity increased to 569 beds.
Concluding the ceremony, the two ministers collectively thanked KFH for its pioneering national contribution. They emphasized that constructive partnerships between the public and private sectors are a key pillar supporting Kuwait’s vision for sustainable development and reinforcing national efforts to protect society from the dangers of addiction and drugs.
