Kuwait Finance House (KFH) participated in the Forbes Sustainability Leaders Summit 2026, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, under the theme “Resilience for a Sustainable Future.” Convened under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, the summit brought together global thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss strategies for navigating disruption, accelerating innovation, and driving sustainable growth across key sectors, including energy, artificial intelligence, investment, natural capital, and workforce readiness.
KFH’s participation, represented by KFH Head of Group Compliance and Governance, Meshal Alshayee, and Executive Manager Governance and Sustainability at KFH, Mohammad Alarbeed, reflects its commitment to sustainable finance and responsible growth, while highlighting the role of Islamic finance in supporting sustainable development through Sharia-compliant solutions. The summit also provided an opportunity for KFH to exchange best practices with industry leaders, strengthen its ESG approach, and reinforce its position as a pioneer in sustainable finance and long-term value creation.
Executive Manager Governance and Sustainability at KFH, Mohammad Alarbeed, participated as a speaker in a panel discussion titled “Sustainable Finance Exchange: From Commitments to Capital.” The session explored how purpose-driven capital can accelerate climate innovation, empower SMEs, and generate long-term economic and social value.
During the discussion, Alarbeed emphasized the vital role of banks in bridging capital and the real economy by directing financing toward sustainable development initiatives. He noted that financial institutions in the GCC are well positioned to support large-scale sustainable growth through investments in renewable energy, infrastructure, low-carbon technologies, and other projects that strengthen economic resilience and environmental stewardship.
Alarbeed highlighted the strong alignment between Islamic finance and sustainability principles, noting that the asset-backed nature of Sharia-compliant financing encourages responsible investment and links funding to real economic activity. He added that KFH continues to integrate sustainability across its products and services, leveraging Islamic finance as an effective catalyst for long-term value creation and sustainable development.
He further stressed that robust governance and transparency are essential to building trust and advancing sustainable finance. Strengthening governance frameworks and disclosure practices, he said, will play a key role in accelerating sustainable finance across the region.
Alarbeed added that KFH Group increased its sustainability sukuk exposure to nearly $2.38 billion in 2025. This growth underscores its leading role in sustainable finance across Islamic finance markets.
He noted that KFH’s portfolio of green and sustainable sukuk expanded to nearly $1.2 billion in 2025, representing a 30.7% year-on-year increase compared to 2024. The total investment was allocated as 44% in sustainable sukuk and 56% in green sukuk.
Alarbeed emphasized that KFH remains on track with the implementation of its ESG strategy, aimed at achieving net-zero operational emissions by 2060, backed by an executive roadmap for 2025–2030.
KFH continues to achieve significant milestones in sustainability and ESG performance. The Group holds an MSCI ESG Rating of “A” and is included in the FTSE4Good Index Series in recognition of its commitment to environmental, social, and governance best practices and sustainable finance. KFH Auto showroom also received the GSAS Gold Level Sustainability Assessment Certificate, becoming the first environmentally friendly automotive showroom in Kuwait to fully comply with sustainability standards.
As part of its efforts to advance sustainability, KFH signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and launched the first Sustainable Business Program for SMEs, designed to help businesses enhance competitiveness and achieve sustainable growth.
The bank also continues its flagship “Keep It Green” initiative, which supports environmental conservation and carbon emissions reduction. KFH was the first institution in Kuwait to issue impact measurement reports and remains a pioneer in sustainability reporting through the publication of its annual Sustainability Report and Carbon Footprint Report, outlining its environmental performance, progress, and roadmap toward a lower-carbon future.
